Approximately 5,000–6,000 tons of CO₂e
The Hringrás Forestry Project is Súrefni’s first initiative, developed in collaboration with the Icelandic Forestry Service to support large-scale carbon sequestration.
The forest is composed of a carefully selected mix of Birch, Black cottonwood and Sitka spruce, chosen for their ability to maximize carbon capture and ecosystem resilience.
Each hectare of forested land is estimated to sequester 500–600 tons of CO₂e, with approximately 2,500 trees planted per hectare. Designed for long-term sustainability, the forest will thrive for 50 years, with carbon sequestration credits sold in advance (ex-ante) based on projected absorption. This methodology follows Skógarkolefni’s framework, ensuring full compliance with ISO 14064 and the Icelandic Standards Council’s ÍST TS 92:2022 technical specification for verified carbon offsetting.
All forest expansions are currently undergoing certification and registration in the International Carbon Registry, reinforcing transparency, accountability, and credibility in carbon credit issuance.
