Súrefni announced the registration of the Pure North project in the Verra registry, describing it as a milestone for plastic recycling and the circular economy in Iceland. The team thanked Sigurður Halldórsson and Pure North for their cooperation.
At the time of the announcement, Súrefni described Pure North as the first project of its kind in Europe and the second plastic recycling project worldwide to certify plastic credits through Verra. These statements referred to the small number of registered projects then in the programme.
The article projected approximately 17,500 tonnes of recycled plastic during the initial 2021–2028 period. It anticipated that credit revenue would support growth and development, helping strengthen the recycling operation through private financing.
